CHRISTIANS AND REPUBLICANS

I don't understand the affiliation that Christians seem to have with Republicans. It makes me wonder what exactly the Christians are doing in their churches on Sunday. Whatever it is, it's clearly apparent that it's not Bible study. One of the most famous things Jesus ever said was,

Blessed are you poor,

For yours is the kingdom of God.

The Republicans, on the other hand, seem to be saying the very opposite:

Blessed are you wealthy, for yours is the kingdom of God.

I repeat the question: What are Christians learning in their Sunday Schools? What are their preachers haranguing about from their pulpits? I don't get it.

I think I have an idea though.

It's the abortion thing.

How this ever became a rallying point I don't understand. If Christians were being taught what they should be taught (in their Sunday Schools and Bible Colleges and Seminaries), it would have never become an issue in the first place. As far as I know, Jesus never said a word about abortion. As a matter of fact, I don't think the word even existed in those days. Christians weakly appeal to the sixth commandment (thou shalt not kill) to support their rabid (not to mention totally irrational) position on the issue.

And they are of course wrong to do so, in much the same way that those bozos who call themselves artists are wrong to appeal to the first amendment to justify their twisted ideas about freedom of expression whenever they feel the notion to urinate on a canvas and call it art.

Attention all Christians. Here's a news flash for you: the sixth commandment referred to actual, living and breathing, human beings, the kind you see walking around on two legs. It had nothing whatsoever to do with aborting fetuses.

If Jesus were here today, he most definitely would have nothing whatsoever to do with Republicans. He would surely revile and scoff at them in much the same way he did the Pharisees and Sadducees. The Democratic Party is much more closely aligned with the principles espoused by the kingdom of God, which seems always concerned with the needs of the poor and underprivileged and socially outcast. In fact, a modern-day Jesus would very likely use the word "Republican" as a synonym for "the rich" so that another of his famous sayings might be;

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a Republican to enter the kingdom of God.
