DRUG BUST

It seems like every other week or so we're hearing about another drug bust. I have a hard time expressing how disgusted I get with the whole thing.

I know, it sounds like an old saw, but I can't help but think about the homeless, not to mention the starving children, we hear about from time to time.

Yeah, we've got kids going hungry and people homeless, but we waste our time with drug raids. This kind of nonsense is right up there with one of my other pet peaves - policing the prostitutes.

I guess we're gonna be stuck with the puritan ethic forever.

This is what the atheists are talking about when they make the charge that religious faith is hurting us. You can bet that the primary impetus behind this kind of government waste is somehow rooted in faith-based sensiblities, sensibilities that assure us that it is somehow wrong to take drugs.

I honestly cannot decide which is more bogus, the war in Iraq or the one on drugs. Both of those questionable conflicts need to come to a screeching halt.

We need to divert the resources (both human and material) to other (much more truly worthy) pursuits.

Drugs (of all varieties) should be absolutely legal. Whatever an adult chooses to do with their own body is their business, including loading it up with drugs (or selling it).

And as far as the war in Iraq goes, I personally don't care how we leave, so long as it's soon, like very soon. I wouldn't even care if we left in a manner that gave the impression that we ran off like the proverbial dog with its tail between its legs. The diversion of resources to more human interests is far more important than being concerned with saving the world from terror, a paranoid perception, one whose maleficent visage we only exacerbate by dwelling on it so much.

The human condition, however, is not a perception, and it most definitely deteriorates the less we dwell on it.

In the language of Star Trek, we need to divert more power to life support and lower the shields.
